Three Miles North of Molkom

08 September 2009

Cinema-goers are invited to attend a live link-up event on Wednesday 16th September, via satellite, with audiences nationwide to see comedian RUSSELL HOWARD perform an exclusive stand up introduction to a very special preview screening of acclaimed comedy documentary THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM.

Providing a unique experience for lovers of film and comedy everywhere, the satellite link up will be broadcast in cinemas across Britain on the Wednesday evening, with new stand-up material specially created for the event. The host cinema from which the event will be broadcast live will be the Cineworld Haymarket.

One member of the directing duo behind THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM, Rob Cannan, says:

“What we are offering people is a great laugh followed by a great film, even if we do say so ourselves! We have toured THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM around film festivals all over the world, and the one thing that all audiences take away from it is just a tremendous feeling of fun and laughter, so having Russell introduce the film is absolutely perfect.”

Corinna Villari-McFarlane adds:

“Russell Howard was our first choice for the exclusive live stand-up introduction. We’re massive fans of his work, Russell is simply the sharpest and freshest stand up comedian on the scene right now, and he will no doubt compliment the comic sensibilities of THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM which takes a sideways glance at organised spirituality.”

THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM is on general release from Friday 18th September.

Cinema-goers are invited to arrive at 8pm for an 8.30pm start to the introduction from Russell Howard. Tickets can be bought on the night or pre-ordered as usual through the cinema they are attending.

Alex Stolz, Senior Distribution and Exhibition Executive for the UK Film Council, whose Distribution & Exhibition Fund is co-funding the event, says:

“The use of a live satellite link-up shows how new and innovative ways of distribution are giving cinemas the flexibility to show films as live event and our funding For Three Miles North of Molkom will ensure the film is beamed into 50 cinemas across the UK.  Exploring cost-effective ways of making films more widely accessible is an important part of the UK Film Council’s work in supporting digital innovation in film.”

One of the hottest properties in the comedy world, RUSSELL HOWARD is known to millions as a panelist on BBC Two’s ‘Mock The Week’ as well as from regular appearances on ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ (BBC Two), ‘Would I Lie To You?’ (BBC One), ‘Live At The Apollo’ (BBC One) and as the new host of Comedy Central’s ‘Edinburgh and Beyond’. But it is on stage where Russell really storms it. Three sold out solo tours in three years have cemented Russell’s reputation as one of the best live acts in the country with his twice extended ‘Dingledodies’ tour playing to over 125,000 people alone.

THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM is a critically acclaimed documentary which follows the two-week, comic-come-karmic adventures of a "Sharing Group" who meet at the slightly bonkers No Mind new age festival held  at Angsbacka in the heart of the Swedish countryside, three miles north of a town called Molkom. A 21st century playground for spiritually minded adults.

We follow a middle aged mojo-worn lothario, a Swedish Pop star, a Hawaiian hippy, an emotional Finnish Grandma and, above all, Nick, a mouthy back-packing Aussie rugby coach (who definitely stumbled into the wrong party). Alongside a thousand others and set amidst the lush Swedish forest, a uniquely intensive program of Shamanic experiences and adult games guides the unlikely groups towards love, loathing, hilarity and a search for truth.

THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM is on general release from Friday 18th September.
