Tom Hanks and Playtone Productions set to make a 3D film of Major Matt Mason

He'll next be seen in the July 1 release of Larry Crowne, but Hollywood legend Tom Hanks is planning to produce with his Playtone Productions a 3D film based on the classic 60's action figure Major Matt Mason.
Hanks is currently looking for a lead actor, but his long time collaborator Robert Zemeckis is in talks to direct the 3D live-action film, working from a screenplay by Hanks and Graham Yost.
According to reports Major Matt Mason is one of three adaptations that Playtone has lined up, the other two being a TV version of American Gods by Neil Gaiman for HBO and film based on Green Day's American Idiot musical.
Major Matt Mason was an astronaut action figure who took part in imaginary adventures on the moon in the 1960's and the film reportedly has a budget of $100 million.
