He's quickly becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable stars, what with his starring roles in the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, This Means War and Inception and now it looks like British born actor Tom Hardy is about to add another string to his bow with word that he is being courted to take the lead role in the Jack Ryan spinoff Without Remorse.
Without Remorse is a potential franchise based on John Clark, a character who is described as the counterpart and "dark side" to CIA operative Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), which would serve as a reunion for the two A-ist actors who last appeared together in the aforementioned This Means War.
According to Deadline, Paramount are keen to enlist Hardy for the role of Clark, however it is not yet known how keen Hardy is with the proposed project.
Kevin Costner who next shows up as Pa Kent in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel will star in both the new Jack Ryan film and Without Remorse as Ryan and Clark's idealistic mentor William Harper.
Without Remorse is based on the Tom Clancy novel and is set in the 1970's, and sees John Clark become involved in a mission to rescue American pilots from a Vietnamese prison camp.
Coupled with the apparent failure of this mission, Clark is also struggling with the recent death of his pregnant wife.
Christopher McQuarrie who wrote the upcoming Jack Reacher adaptation and the currently filming superhero sequel The Wolverine is being tapped to write and direct the adaptation of Without Remorse.
As for Hardy, he will next show up on the big screen in John Hillcoat's Prohibition drama Lawless alongside Shia LaBeouf and is currently filming Mad Max: Fury Road.
LAWLESS IS OUT ON SEPTEMBER 7
