Top 5 Things You Look For in a Christmas Movie

30 November 2009

With the new festive film; Nativity! starring Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen hitting UK cinemas on the 27th November, we take a look at the top 5 things you look for in a Christmas film...

Comedy

There is nothing more depressing then turning on the television on Christmas day and seeing another repeat of Titanic or other similar tear-jerkers! So instead, a lot of us opt for those Christmas comedy favourites that provide a bit of light relief from warring family members, Christmas culinary disasters and broken toys. A fantastic comedy that is guaranteed to bring a smile to the whole family this Christmas is the wonderful film Nativity! released on 27th November.

Snow

Although we dream of waking up on Christmas morning with everything covered in a dazzling blanket of sparkling white, the reality of Christmas usually involves a rainy and grey outlook.  We therefore need to rely on those good, old classic films, where the tree is always beautifully decorated, the turkey is never burnt, and there never, ever fails to be a healthy dusting of thick snow.

Children

Children and Christmas go hand in hand!  The best Christmas movies are those with a healthy helping of young talent, whose excitement and joy reawakens our inner child and reminds us of what Christmas is really all about.

Romance

Everyone loves a good romance, especially at Christmas time.  Mistletoe and mulled wine provide the perfect combination for a whirlwind winter romance, and some of the best films are those where we get to watch the action unfold between the leading man and lady.

Santa Claus

Nothing beats a good old helping of Santa Claus in our favourite Christmas movies! Seeing that jovial face and rotund physique reminds us of just how exciting Christmas Eve can be for children!
