Toy Story 3 Oscar winners Tim Allen and Tom Hanks board Jungle Cruise
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are set to reteam on Disney's long-gestating live-action film version of Jungle Cruise. The pair best known as Woody and Buzz in the Oscar winning Toy Story 3 are set to star in the film based on the popular theme park ride.
Disney first announce their intention to turn the ride into a film back in 2006 when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was riding high at the box office. Back then Smallville legends Alfred Gough and Miles Milar were working on a closely guarded concept that featured action, adventure and a 20th century setting.
Even now the plot is a closely guarded secret but the action-adventure element remains in place apparently it’ll boast “unique aspects that will make it more than just a straight-up adventure”.
Jungle Cruise, which has been part of Disneyland since the park opened in 1955, famously saw current Disney creative/parks honcho John Lasseter as one of its boat commanders back when he was a speccy teenager earning cash. Its narrative includes the chatty commander leading his party through a hazardous voyage filled with dangerous natives, piranhas and hippos.
For those of you still hankering for some Toy Story fun, the "Hawaiian Vacation" short arrives in cinemas with Cars 2 on July 22.
