Vanessa Hudgens stayed at a homeless shelter for Gimmer Shelter

Gorgeous High School Musical alumni Vanessa Hudgens who can currently be seen in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has revealed that she lived in a shelter for two weeks as preparation for her new film Gimme Shelter.

She tells talkshow host Rachael Ray "I actually went and stayed in a shelter for two weeks before I started filming.

I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it's really interesting because you find so much more about yourself."

Hudgens takes on the role of a pregnant homeless teenager in the drama and spoke about her physical appearance in the Ron Krauss drama adding "I actually cut my own hair for this movie. I did that to myself."

Hudgens has starred in a diverse range of films including Bandslam, Beastly and Sucker Punch and has Scott Walker's The Frozen Ground in post prodction and is gearing up to star in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers with Hotel Transylvania's Selena Gomez.
