Wales Interactive & Good Gate Media Launch Interactive Thrillers NIGHT BOOK + DEATHTRAP DUNGEON That Use The Mandalorian CGI Technology

18 June 2021

WALES INTERACTIVE AND GOOD GATE MEDIA LAUNCH INTERACTIVE THRILLER ‘NIGHT BOOK’  STARRING COLIN SALMON AND JULIE DRAY  AND HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ‘DEATHTRAP DUNGEON’ DEMO USING CGI TECHNOLOGY FROM DISNEY’S THE MANDALORIAN

Today Wales Interactive and Good Gate Media are excited to announce their next collaboration on new interactive thriller Night Book, starring Colin Salmon (Resident Evil, Mortal Engines) and Julie Dray (Avenue 5) which is set to be released from 27 July on Steam (PC & Mac), PS4, Xbox One, Switch and iOS.

To coincide, the partnership also launches new trailer and brand new demo for the highly anticipated fantasy action Deathtrap Dungeon: The Golden Room – which will be the first interactive film based on the hugely successful Fighting Fantasy gamebook franchise established by Ian Livingstone (CBE), which sold 23 million copies worldwide. Deathtrap Dungeon is an ultra-modern take on Dungeons and Dragons and other successful fantasy role-playing games and features the same real-time rendering CGI technology used on Disney’s The Mandalorian. Directed by Paul Raschid (The Complex, Five Dates, White Chamber) and starring Georgia Hirst (Five Dates, Vikings) and Marcus Fraser (Transformers: The Last Knight), the full game will be released in 2022 and the demo is now available on Steam and Xbox One.

A completely live action, interactive movie, filmed remotely during lockdown, Night Book is an interactive thriller about an online interpreter who is tricked into reading an ancient book that summons a demon into her home.

Loralyn (played by Julie Dray) works the night shift remotely from her home, live interpreting video calls from English to French and back again. Currently pregnant, with a husband working far away and caring for her mentally ill father, she is desperately trying to keep her family together and safe – but who is she prepared to sacrifice to survive? The fiancé, the baby, her father or herself?

From the producers of The Complex and Five Dates – John Giwa Amu (The Party, The Roads Not Taken, The Machine) and Sarah Barker (The Runaways, Censor, Looted); co-developed by the studio behind Maid of Sker and Directed by Alex Lightman (Tear Me Apart), Night Book is one story with several different paths and endings. It was shot remotely during lockdown, in Paris, London, Birmingham and Cardiff, using Blackmagic cameras and event recording technology. Making this interactive film incredibly unique, the actors filmed themselves and were responsible for their lighting, make-up and continuity.

Dr David Banner MBE, Executive Producer/Co-Founder, Wales Interactive said “Wales Interactive is proud to be collaborating again with Good Gate Media in what has developed into a very successful partnership where the best of the gaming and film worlds unite. We are thrilled that out of such a challenging year for all, creativity and productivity in the gaming and film worlds has not held us back. Producer and founder of Good Gate Media, John Giwa Amu said Good Gate and Wales Interactive’s continued collaboration has lead to a very busy June – we’ve delivered our chilling horror, Night Book, with an exceptional calibre of on and off screen talent. Also, fan favourite Deathtrap Dungeon directed by The Complex’s Paul Raschid, based on Ian Livingstone’s 23 million book selling series, is ready to be played in full live action for the first time!”

About Wales Interactive
Wales Interactive is a multi-award winning video game and interactive movie developer & publisher. Internationally we have become one of the driving forces behind the rebirth of the interactive movie with titles such as The Complex, The Bunker and The Shapeshifting Detective. In the process, we are reinventing the popular point-and-click FMV adventures and turning a niche genre into mainstream gaming. Our titles feature high production values, blurring the lines between film and video games. We have refined the process of making interactive movies, having developed our own scripting tool called WIST, which allows any writer to easily create multi-directional, choose your own adventure scripts that will ultimately drive the final film.
