Warner Bros. Akira adaptation put on hold for rewrites

07 January 2012

There seems to be another twist in in the endless stalling of the long saga of Warner Bros' live action adaptation of the Manga classic Akira.

Variety report that the WB have enlisted The Dark Knight Rises scribe Jonathan Nolan and Green Lantern's Michael Green to review the script following the closure of the film's Vancouver office.

While some sources cite budgetary issues have put the film on hold, Deadline say the opposite, suggesting that following the drop in the budget, the issue is likely to be a creative one.

While Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter are in talks to appear, Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund has already signed on to the film as hero biker Kaneda in a film from Unknown helmer Jaume Collet-Serra which is apparently being moved to the setting of New Manhattan from the classic setting of Neo-Tokyo.
