Warriors to be released on DVD and Digital on January 25 with Special Un Screenings Pre-Rio Olympics 2016
Today Heavy Soul Films, Verve Pictures and Content Media are delighted to announce that their critically acclaimed documentary WARRIORS will be released on DVD and digital platforms from Monday 25th January ahead of special UN screenings in July before the Rio Olympics 2016. The United Nations’ special screenings programme Ciné-ONU are also delighted to confirm that they will be hosting special screenings of WARRIORS in Brussels on 6th July and in London (date tbc) to help promote the UN’s mandate for Sport and Peace to tie in with the Olympics.
The Original Score for WARRIORS will also be released by Novello on Monday 25th January, featuring a remix of Butterfly King by The Amorphous Androgynous with vocals from exciting new talent Bess Atwell. All songs were written by Ali Gavan & Barney Douglas. The film’s soundtrack also includes tracks from former Oasis star Noel Gallagher, Mercury Prize nominated East India Youth, Cosmo (the solo project of Felix White from UK number one band The Maccabees), and Kenyan artists Jimi Mawi & Afro 70.
Directed and Produced by Barney Douglas, Produced by Michael Elson and Executive Produced by James Anderson, England cricket’s most successful international bowler of all time, WARRIORS is a powerful and moving documentary about a young Maasai warrior tribe who form a cricket team in order to help spread awareness of equal rights and education for women and to bring an end to FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) and a change in attitude to HIV and AIDs.
45% of any profit from Warriors will go back to a trust in the Maasai community, which will be used to create an education centre for young people in the region, where they will learn about their health, their rights, and cricket.
Having received critical praise from Empire and Total Film with 4 star reviews for its theatrical release in November, WARRIORS went on to win the Special Jury Prize at the 2015 Peace & Sport Awards in Monaco.
Director Barney Douglas said "Warriors has global messages of gender equality & the power of sport. The reaction in cinemas has been stunning and with this release I hope more people will get a chance to enjoy the film. To see such diverse audiences at screenings - from cricket fans, to young women, to social campaigners - has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the journey so far. Lots of people have been asking about the music as well so I'm really pleased that's getting out there. I must thank Gaz Cobain & Brian Dougans for their beautiful remix on the soundtrack - doesn't get much better than an Amorphous remix!"
Warriors continues to be screened at selected cinemas around the UK, all listings can be found on the film’s website.
WARRIORS is available on DVD and iTunes from 25th January 2016 www.warriorsfilm.co.uk #WakeTheLion. The DVD can be found in all good retail stores and available digitally via iTunes, GooglePlay, Xbox, Amazon, Chilli, CinemaNow, Sainsbury’s and BT.
