Watch The Kent Film Foundation Covid Film Challenge Full Program In Association With Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival

24 May 2021

Kent Film Foundation Covid Film Challenge (KFFCFD) - shares the full program for its Covid Film Challenge.

Due to Covid-19 event restrictions, the festival is going virtual from 4 May to 4 June and will include short films from around the world from over 400 submissions, made in response to and under the constraints of lockdown and ‘bubbles’. In association with Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival.

The festival will also feature short films supported by Screen South which were made as part of the BFI Film Academy which supports 16-19-year-old aspiring filmmakers. Screen South is a Folkestone based cultural development organisation with digital creativity at its heart.

There are three age categories which are 10-12,14-16 and 17-19 and we’re pleased to offer a £100 audience award for each category, sponsored by Strangelove Festival.

Films can be viewed and voted for at our partner Strangelove Festival, the International Time-based Media Festival who are based in Folkestone.

The festival celebrates not only young filmmakers from around the world but also reminds us of our courage and perseverance through the last 12 months, and how we continue to strive as a community around the world.

Thank you to the Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust who without their continued support for the work of the Kent Film Foundation during these times, this online festival would not be taking place. Our youth film workshops resume in May, initially remotely but with an aim for face-to-face resuming from September.

The History of Kent Film Foundation
Kent Film Foundation began as a not-for-profit arm of a film production company based in Thanet, Kent an area of high deprivation and where young people also suffer from "Poverty of Opportunity". A group of filmmakers attached a training element to a series of feature film shoots. This successfully fed talented young people through and into entry level film industry jobs, film school, universities and drama schools for those interested in careers in media.

None of them had thought about what kind of work they might do and a number of them had little academic ability and for this reason the clubs also inspire young people to get more engaged with their local community and find jobs doing something they enjoy.

This inspired one of the filmmakers who had also grown up in poverty herself, into founding Kent Film Foundation into an organisation with charitable status in the hope of hiring professional filmmakers to mentor young people in film workshops that would be FREE to participants.

Building confidence has also resulted in young people merely looking towards work as a positive part of life in itself and by the experience in arts projects in general, members have gone on to look at training in all kinds of trades and not just the arts. We have inspired as many young plumbers, veterinary nurses and electricians as we have film practitioners.

Since its inception the charity has an excellent and proven track record in achieving its outcomes. Most recently receiving a prestigious nomination in the Colyer Fergusson 50th Anniversary Awards “Unlocking Opportunities”

Kent Film Foundation shall be offering film workshops once again for 15 – 19 year olds, initially remotely from mid may. If you are interested or know a young person who might be, please visit our website about how to register your interest.
