We Got POP celebrates one year of CHITLESS their pioneering paperless payment technology with public video launch
We Got POP (POP) launches its Chitless video, taking their pioneering paperless payment technology public as they celebrate one year of successful use within the film industry. fast, integrated and eco-friendly, Chitless is the world’s first ever paper free payment system for paying film extras and it is revolutionising the payment process for film and television productions across the UK. Developed by London-based film and technology startup We Got POP, Chitless was first used for BBC Films / Sixteen Films feature film City of Tiny Lights in April 2015, closely followed by the ITV mini-series Dark Angel. It has since gone on to secure a wide range of users from smaller independent companies to major studios on films including Bridget Jones’s Baby (Working Title), Nightingale (Warner Bros.) and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
With game-changing technology developed by POP’s in-house software engineering team, led by co-founder Bertil Daniel, Chitless allows ADs to sign in and wrap out artists with a few clicks, streamlining the lengthy signing in-and-out process and automatically logging hours accrued on set and calculating pay. Data can be viewed and subsequently approved by all parties, allowing for easy and speedy payment and saving time previously wasted on paperwork and correcting inaccurate figures. Fully accessible from anywhere in the world Chitless technology also works off-line; and on your laptop, tablet or phone.
Richard Slinn, Sloane Square Films Ltd (Nightingale) says “Using Chitless and We Got POP’s dashboard allows me to review and approve day by day briefings for all extras, super fast. In the past, chits got lost and finding answers to queries was painstaking. The whole approval process has been dramatically improved by POP’s Chitless dashboard technology, as all the information is available online and easy to find; rather than having to search through masses of files. I believe this is a great system and I would strongly recommend using it on any production.”
Chitless is part of POP’s wider online platform for production that enables the filmmaking community - crew and service providers alike - to connect directly through a marketplace of users. POP launched with an extras casting platform in September 2013 and has since secured a $660,000 investment from Pinewood Group and angel investors; to expand the POP product offering to include a suite of crew management tools. POP co-founders Kate McLaughlin and Bertil Daniel aim to bring film industry services into the 21st century with technology innovation that matches the cutting-edge technology film audiences see on screen.
Via the casting portal, POP has already transformed the way casting agents and agencies work and some of the highest profile films shot in the UK including Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Spectre and Everest have been cast and paid via the platform. 2016 will see POP expand into crew booking and management as well as preparing a launch in the US.
