Will Smith Wants Emma Thompson To Write Annie Remake

So heres an unlikely trio of creative types, Will Smith, Jay Z and..Emma Thompson, its hard to imagine Thompson rolling with King of New York Jay Z, cruising around Tribeca in matching Yankee baseball hats but sadly this isnt a blossoming relationship, well not the romantic type anyway, more a creative partnership.

Will Smith is keen for Thompson to step in and pen the screenplay for an updated version of the classic comic strip, turned Broadway sensation, Annie. The film is intended as a starring vehicle for Smiths own daughter Willow, famous for whipping her hair back and forth.

As I mentioned previously, the film is being planned as an updated version, seeing as Will Smith, Jay Z and Willow Smith are involved, its entirely likely the film will have a far more urban flavour. Combined with the directing duties from Glee's Ryan Murphy, who is no stranger to the ol song and dance business it should be a lot more pop and a lot less mop,

The script is certainly in safe hands, Thompson won an Oscar for her adaptation of Sense And Sensibility, as well as writing both Nanny Mcphee films. Will Smith is currently working on Men In Black III.
