Woody Harrelson set to play the villainous Colonel in Matt Reeves’s War of the Planet of the Apes

16 September 2015

With a third entry in the ever popular Planet of the Apes franchise coming to cinemas entitled War of the Planet of the Apes, it has been reported that The Hunger Games franchise favourite Woody Harrelson has been cast as the villain of the eagerly awaited film.

War of the Planet of the Apes is said to follow up on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes's themes of the advanced monkey race battling against human survivors of a virus that destroyed the world.

Little is know about the sequel, it is believed Harrelson’s character will be known as Colonel, implying that the uneasy truce made between the humans and apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) towards the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes could be threatened by armies advancing on San Francisco that were referenced at the end of the film.

War of the Planet of the Apes is set for release on July 21 2017 and will be directed by returning Director Matt Reeves, with Mark Bomback returning to write the script, Performance Capture guru Andy Serkis is believed to also be returning, with newcomer to the franchise Gabriel Chavarria.
