X-Men: Days of Future confirmed to return to cinemas with an extended cut

06 August 2014

Following its success, it has been revealed that Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past will return to cinemas with an extended edition in 2015.

James Finn, EVP of marketing communications over at 20th Century Fox responded to a Tweet where Connor Blackburned asked "is this extended, or is that coming later?"

He responded with "theatrical. Extended is coming next year."

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner previously mentioned the cut, however at the time, it was thought that she was referring to the home entertainment release of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The latest adventure for the mutants saw the casts from X-Men: First Class and the X-Men Trilogy together on screen for the first time in a time travel adventure, that saw Hugh Jackman's Wolverine sent back in time to alter the future.

The film has grossed over $700 million and has pushed the X-Men franchise, which began in 2000, past the $3 billion mark in worldwide ticket sales.

Singer will return with X-Men: Apocalypse, the eighth entry in the series in 2016 which is expected to feature members of both casts, with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence already confirmed to return.
