SYNOPSIS
Gangs of Tooting Broadway. Shedding new light on the issues around ethnic and community loyalty, GANGS OF TOOTING BROADWAY is an urban crime drama set in 2009, one day before the Sri Lankan Tamil protests outside The Houses of Parliament.
Centred around multi-cultural Tooting Broadway, the locations lend a gritty feel to a fast-paced storyline that follows the fortunes of a second generation Sri Lankan Tamil man in his twenties: Arun (Nav Sidhu). Having forged a life away from his murky past, he returns to his home turf after a long absence under the cloud of a 24-hour deadline to stop his younger brother participating in a criminal act that could destroy his life. Once home he meets an old flame, Kate (Elizabeth Henstridge), who is struggling with a big decision herself, while Arun’s friendship with gang leader, Karuna (San Shella), threatens to suck him back into the world he left behind.
Featuring a cast of fresh talent and the music of M.I.A., GANGS OF TOOTING BROADWAY is hard-hitting and gripping, giving audiences a unique glimpse into life in this close-knit, fiercely proud community.
