SYNOPSIS
TOWN OF STRANGERS. Is an extraordinary film set in Gort, a rural village in Galway, Ireland, which has two claims to fame. It has the highest mix of different nationalities and backgrounds in Ireland and is also the worst hit by austerity. When a stranger arrives in the village, she puts out a call for auditions asking people to tell her their ‘dreams, lies, memories and gossip’. Together they go on a journey to explore their waking and dream lives. Featuring a cast of migrant workers, hippies, travellers, newly arrived refugees and even the director herself, we are ushered into the private worlds of people living between two cultures, sharing their desires of longing and belonging.
With the subject of immigration continuing to be a major political talking point in 2023, along with the cost of living crisis, this timely film vividly brings to life the reality of everyday existence for a huge number of people, using a unique format to create a cinematic language of its own.
