"a far superior film in respect to what came before, as it builds on the mythos of the character"

High Octane anti-hero sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is a fast paced, action packed thrill ride, that follows on from its predecessor and finds Johnny Blaze, once again played by the brilliant Nicolas Cage, hiding out in Eastern Europe before being called back into action by the mysterious Moreau (Idris Elba) to help prevent the devil (Ciarán Hinds) from taking human form.

This time around, directing duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor - who brought us the Crank series - take over at the helm, bringing with them some inspired choices of well known genre favourites including Anthony Stewart Head and Christopher Lambert, as well as featuring a host of death defying stunts, exploiting and taking advantage of 3D technology, making for an edgier and darker film.

The landscapes are beautiful and set the scene aptly, and you can definitely see the filmmakers influence on the Marvel anti-hero, including the inspired choice to have Cage take on the role of the Ghost Rider as well as the jerky camera movements.

As well as the devil, Ghost Rider also battles with Ray Carrigan, who is later transformed into the supernatural villain Blackout - played by the fantastic Johnny Whitworth - in a bid to save the young Danny (Fergus Riordan) and his mother Nadya (Violante Placido). The support actors are equally as brilliant and clearly having a lot of fun with their roles.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is a far superior film in respect to what came before, as it builds on the mythos of the character and is smart, fun and witty, whilst importantly moving the story forward rather than merely rehashing what came before.
