Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague—The Infected—lurk in the shadows…watching Neville’s every move…waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered…and quickly running out of time.

"a brave film, something different"
My heart was racing through the entire film. I certainly need to watch this again as I'm sure I missed some of the best parts, having closed my eyes and jumping from my seat!
Will Smith pulls it off effortlessly; considering the dialogue is sparse he offers an emotional performance and carries the film from beginning to end. While it starts off slow, it quickly picks up the pace with an emotional middle and satisfying end. Any hard-core fans expecting another of his action packed, feel-good shoot em ups may be disappointed.
The special effects are as excellent as you would expect, but it's the deserted streets of New York that have to be seen to be believed. This was a brave film, something different. I enjoyed the ride with unlimited scares, terrific special effects and great pacing. I was expecting a lot and I left feeling fulfilled.
