"a great new entry into the Ghostbusters mythos"

The original Ghostbusters came out in 1984, so this could be considered a 40th anniversary celebration of the franchise, and what a celebration.

As a fan and being of a certain age I've been a fan, I grew up watching the original movies, The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon series and basically all media I could get my hands on. For the most part, due to relationship between cast mates we would never have believe we would got a Ghostbusters 3 (Afterlife) let alone a Ghostbusters 4 (Frozen Empire).

We're greatly lucky we have both Jason Reitman (son of Ivan, who this film is dedicated to) and Gil Kenan who have shown such love and appreciation to the source material that it fits perfect into the Ghostbusters mythos.

Almost all of the main cast from Ghostbusters: Afterlife return, a little older not always wiser, That means Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace all return portraying Spenglers, having moved into the firehouse and taken over Ghost Busting duties. Not forgetting Ray (Dan Aykroyd), Winston (Ernie Hudson) and Dr Venkman (Bill Murray) rounding out returning faces.. helped by Annie Potts' return as Janine ensuring that the more things have changed, the more they stay the same.

In true Ghostbusters fashion, the end of the world this time is brought about by... someone trying to sell something to make a buck or two. Two of the new faces come from James Acaster as Lars, who handles much of the techno jargon and is a welcomed replacement to Egon who as always is deeply missed. The other is Kumail Nanjiani as Nadeem, who ends up going from a slacker to essential to the storyline of Frozen Empire. A tiny bit disappointing we don't end getting any Louis Tully but such is life.

Once again they use familiar musical cues to tie things back to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, and having Finn's Trevor Spengler go up against Slimer was a touch of genius.

This sequel was a joy to watch the 2 hours runtime went by fast. If there's another entry and it's left in Gil's capable hands I cannot wait. There is also the matter of matching the tone of the other films, this is done quite well given how the 2016 film managed it, it goes to show when a propriety is given the right level of attention and isn't done just for fan service results can end up being promising.

To summarise, perfect family film for the Summer, worth 4 out 5, it's a great new entry into the Ghostbusters mythos as said before, with plenty of easter egg to hunt for the most dedicated of fans.
