Thomas Dekker tipped for Footloose remake

28 May 2010

Thomas Dekker last seen in the reboot of 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' but best known for playing the iconic John Connor in TV's 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' is tipped to step into Kevin Bacon's shoes in the remake of 'Footloose'.

The remake's development has been a carousel of changing directors and talent. Originally planned as a reunion for the 'High School Musical' star/filmmaker team Zac Efron and Kenny Ortega, it was scuppered last year when Efron decided he wanted to stop working on so many musical projects and Ortega left claiming he was tired after making 'This Is It'. Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford stepped in, but he also left when scheduling couldn’t be worked out.

The new Footloose, a remake of Kevin Bacon's 1984 movie, centres on Ren McCormack as he arrives in a small town where dancing is outlawed.

Dekker said recently "Right now I'm kind of closing this big, intimidating huge movie that I can't say what it is, but that will be a trip if we do that, it's a big fun movie, it's not very dark."

With a short, but troubled history, it has seemed like the film has been cursed by the Movie Gods, angered at yet another remake sauntering across the cinematic dance floor. But Paramount is intent on getting its new version of Footloose in production, with former John Connor actor Thomas Dekker as the studio’s next likely candidate.
