Zendaya rumoured to be playing iconic Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson in Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming
Face it Tiger... You just hit the Jackpot! Whilst it was reported that Zendaya's Spider-Man: Homecoming character was Michelle, it has come to light that she may in fact be playing the iconic love interest Mary Jane Watson.
Previously, the role the Disney favourite will be playing in the Jon Watts directed Marvel and Sony produced superhero film was referred to as Michelle, but The Wrap report that it is potentially a smokescreen for her actually playing MJ.
In Marvel Comics lore Mary Jane Watson was created by Marvel Comics visionaries Stan Lee, John Romita and Steve Ditko some 51 years ago, she was most famously played by Kirsten Dunst in the original Spider-Man trilogy from Sam Raimi.
The character was due to appear in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however the scenes that Shailene Woodley shot were cut.
Talking about her casting, earlier this year, Zendaya said "It's very exciting - when it comes to the acting space, I am basically unknown. I've never been in a real movie before or anything like that, so I had to start from the bottom like anyone else.
I auditioned and auditioned and auditioned and [broke] down those walls because a lot of people do have that pre-conceived notion of who I am based off previous things I've done, so you got to really break that down and go hard, put in the work, take all the meetings, take all the auditions."
Marvel and Sony have yet to confirm or deny this latest round of rumours, Spider-Man: Homecoming is described as a coming-of-age high school story and will see Tom Holland as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man and is set for release on July 7 2017 and will feature Michael Keaton as villain of the story; The Vulture.
