Steve Kelly’s Football Comedy THE BROMLEY BOYS Coming to UK Cinemas on June 1 Following its World Premiere on May 24

04 May 2018

THE BROMLEY BOYS, a wonderfully funny, feel-good coming of age comedy starring Brenock O’Connor, Martine McCutcheon, Alan Davies and Jamie Foreman will have its World Premiere on 24th May at Wembley Stadium. and on general release in the UK later in the month.

Inspired by the book The Bromley Boys by Dave Roberts, the film tells the story of the author as a 15 year-old and his passion for the worst football team in Britain – Bromley FC, a district of South East London. Set on the cusp of the 1970’s, and played out to the nostalgic sights and sounds of the era, including the music, wide collars and moustaches, the film captures the lengths to which a devoted fan will go to save his beloved football club, and the difficulties thrown up when your first love turns out to be the belligerent club chairman’s daughter. The Bromley Boys is a story of the underdog coming good, first love and the beautiful awkwardness that goes with it.

It is probably fair to say, Bromley Football Club visiting Wembley can be very much like the number 314 bus which runs from Bromley Road to their somewhat rustic Hayes Lane ground - You can wait for an absolute age for one, then two come along at once!

Thanks to a fifth-minute own-goal from Gateshead’s Fraser Kerr ensured Bromley a 4-3 aggregate Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final success, ending a very long wait for another Wembley chapter to be written. A period which until recently has seen more downs than ups. Possibly the darkest season to date in Bromley’s 126-year history - 1969/70 - had a profound effect on one fan: Dave Roberts was 15-years-old when Bromley slumped alarmingly to the lower reaches of the non-league game. However, years later and still captivated by those fruitless visits to Hayes Lane, Roberts decided to scribe his memories, culminating in 2006 with the launch of his first book ‘The Bromley Boys’. Inspired by this very popular and highly praised book, actor/producer TJ Herbert became fixated on recreating the story for the big screen.

The feature film THE BROMLEY BOYS was seven years in the making and will make its debut, the World Premiere, at Wembley Stadium on May 24th, 2018 exactly 4 days after Bromley FC play its hallowed ground for the first time since 1949.

Roberts had this to say “I love the fact that the premiere is being held at Wembley Stadium because that’s where the story of The Bromley Boys begins - with England winning the World Cup in 1966. Wembley has added significance, too, now that Bromley have made the FA Trophy final which takes place there four days before the premiere. May is going to be a very special month".

With an impressive British cast which also includes Adam Deacon (Annuvahood), Ewen Macintosh (The Office) and Gareth Hale (Hale and Pace, Extras). The cast is joined by several up and coming actors, including Betsy Blue-English, discovered through a Bromley Borough wide talent search – and World Freestyle Footballer Sean Garnier.

The Bromley Boys is directed by Steve Kelly (City Rats) and produced by TJ Herbert and Dean Fisher. TJ Herbert, who, as a Bromley boy himself, obtained the rights to the film after discovering the story in a local bookshop. He then partnered with Fisher to bring the project together.

“It’s been quite a journey getting the film to where it is now,” explains co. producer TJ Herbert, “it was a phenomenal team effort, on a very tight budget with one single goal – getting the best possible film on the screen. I believe we’ve done that and can’t wait to finally have The Bromley Boys out there for all to see.”

More exciting release and event details coming soon.....
