Danny McBride and Rasmus Hardicker talk at the Bloggers Knight Out in London
To celebrate the release of Your Highness on April 13th, The Fan Carpet were invited to a secret location in Central London to share a flagon of ale with writer and star Danny McBride, and his co star Rasmus Hardicker.
In the informal setting, Rasmus spoke about his upcoming zombie horror comedy where he described a scene from the film involving “all the heroes together surrounded by a thousand zombies” he added that the film was going alright and that he’s having having fun working with Honor Blackman.
When asked about filming and his co star Natalie Portman he said “We shot before Black Swan, she’s very sweet, a sweetheart” and describes working on Your Highness as one of the best jobs he’s ever done.
Rasmus went on to say that the shoot for Your Highness latest four and a half months, however Danny was there a few weeks before adding “I had never been to Ireland before, it was the first time I had ever been, you’ll never find a nicer bunch of people than over in Northern Ireland.”
Danny McBride commented that he loves ComicCon and just did interviews there, and added that he loves comic books and is hoping to make a prequel with Shaun Phillips for Your Highness saying “I’m a big fan of Shaun, and I’d love to write a comic book for the movie. There’s a comic book that we did that is two separate stories, it picks up Fabious and Thadeous before the movie, so it shows me with the Dwarf Kings wife and it shows Fabious killing the Cyclops and rescuing Belladonna. We hope to get a chance to do a prequel from Justin Theroux character and Natalie.”
When asked about his Oscar winning co star Natalie Portman, Danny gushed saying “She’s awesome! I didn’t know what to expect from her, I knew she was an incredible actress, but I didn’t know if she would be insulted by us, but she has an incredible sense of humour and is as cool as you’d hope.”
When speaking about the process of making the film, Danny said that while it’s written really well on the page, the rehearsal and improv happens infront of the camera adding “We’ll do a couple of takes of what’s written on the page, and some of that makes it into the show.”
When asked about deleted screens he said that not much was cut out, however there was a significant scene that didn’t make it into the film involving Leezar, Justin Theroux character “He drinks from this chalice that turns his sperm into Dragon sperm and that’s why his finger nails are going crazy, and when James stabs him, he doesn’t change into emeralds he was meant to die over that bridge.”
