While The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey rides high at the world wide box office, the first photo from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug featuring Martin Freeman as the titular Hobbit.

Set for release on December 13 next year, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug follows the continuing adventures of the Dwarfs, Bilbo and Gandalf after they have successfully escaped the misty mountains, but Bilbo has gained the one ring. They all continue their journey to get their gold back off the Dragon, Smaug.

Featuring the all star cast of Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Lee Pace, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, Billy Connolly, Graham McTavish, James Nesbitt, Stephen Fry and Barry Humphries.
