Fox Searchlight to release Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn
Two of Hollywood's greatest acting talents, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn are to star in the equally talented Terrence Malick's latest Masterpiece The Tree of Life. Unusually the film had already been written and shot and only needed a home for its release, which it found in the loving arms of Fox Searchlight.
The film, which is due for a 2011 release, centres around the journey of the eldest son of a mid-western family in the 1950's. Chronicling his life from boyhood to adulthood (played by Penn), we see him struggle to rebuild a relationship with his father (played by Pitt) all the while trying to find meaning in a modern world.
Rumours that Malick has done something quite radical with the film, plus the fact that he took an age to complete it, will no doubt fan the flames of anticipation for the premiere of what has been described as "A deeply moving, keenly observed and magisterial film" by Searchlight President's Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula.
Fox searchlight has also received high praise from the film's producer Bill Pohlad, who feels that Searchlight is the perfect partner for the film:
"Malick has given us another masterpiece that is both profoundly moving and stunningly beautiful. And there is no better partner than Fox Searchlight to bring this film to audiences. Their ability to distribute and market independent films with a passion and creativity is incredibly rare in our industry."
With the cast being as it is, The Tree of Life, will undoubtedly do well commercially and could be a strong Oscar candidate. We can't wait.
The Tree of Life will hit UK cinema's 28th January 2011.
