Iron Man franchise star Robert Downey Jr. not ready to let go of Iron Man

26 February 2013

With the release of Shane Black's Iron Man 3 fast approaching, Robert Downey Jr. who has starred as Tony Stark since 2008's hit Iron Man seems intent on keeping his iconic role.

Speaking to Empire, Downey Jr. hinted that he is not ready to relinquish his role as the Marvel Comics hero yet revealing "Let's just say that the only thing I ever let go of had claw marks in it.

There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on. I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is - how do you sustain something?

I'm not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I'm not too picky about that either."

Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role for Joss Whedon's sequel to the blockbuster hit Avengers Assemble but it is currently unclear if he will return to the role in future instalments after Iron Man 3.

However, judging by his comments, we can expect an announcement of a new contract soon.
Iron Man 3 opens on April 26 featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce, Paul Bettany, Jon Favreau, William Sadler, Cobie Smulders, Ty Simpkins and James Badge Dale.
