Odeon goes to Wonderland
Odeon cinemas have confirmed they will show Alice in Wonderland in their 100 cinemas in the UK and Ireland after resolving their dispute with Disney.
The big screen giants had threatened to boycott the film over plans to release it on DVD 12 weeks after it opened in the cinema – rather than the usual 17.
However, with Vue and Cineworld (who had also originally threatened a boycott) striking a deal with Disney, Odeon confirmed they have also reached an agreement with the studio.
In a statement, they said, "Odeon is pleased to announce that it will now be showing Alice in Wonderland, beginning March 5, in its cinemas in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Austria."
The news has delighted director Tim Burton, who said at the Alice in Wonderland press conference today, "We made it to be seen on a 3-D screen, so I'm happy and grateful."
