Oscar winner Charlize Theron says Young Adult is important role of her career

16 December 2011

She's currently filming her evil turn as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, but sexy Oscar winning Hollywood A-lister Charlize Theron who will next be seen in Jason Reitman's Young Adult has suggested playing the role may have been the most important role of her career.

While she won an Oscar for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in Patty Jenkins' biopic Monster, the South Africa born star explains to USA Today "I'd be blind to not see the potential in the character. These are the kinds of roles women wait for, i scared me. There's so much about her - when you hold up the mirror, you see almost too much you don't want to acknowledge. But that coincides with what makes my job exciting."

Theron also explained how she was determined to avoid the usual clichés when playing the former high school 'mean girl' adding "I didn't try to make her a human being. I really believed that she was. There's so much about this that's hard for me to admit, that I've done things like this to get through the day, she does things that are really despicable.

Overall, the survival techniques - the meanness, the lying about her life being so great - are things we can relate to."

Young Adult is written by Diablo Cody and also stars Patrick Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser, Patton Oswalt and Reitman regular J.K. Simmons and hits cinemas on February 10. Following that, Theron will be seen as Meredith Vickers in Ridley Scott's hotly anticipated sci-fi epic Prometheus on June 1.
