‘The Sweeney’ adaptation is back on

21 August 2010

After being in production limbo since the false start in 2008, the film adaptation of the 1970's cop show 'The Sweeney' that starred the late John Thaw, is now reportedly back on.

Ray Winstone is still attached to play Jack Regan, the no-nonsence hard hitting cop that was famously portrayed by John Thaw, who along with his partner George Carter played by Dennis Waterman dished out hard justice to London criminals.

Nick Love will write and direct the adaptation which is now in the hands of Vertigo Films, after the original rights holders - DNA Films got cold feet over casting and budget issues.

There is no word yet on who will play George Carter, although many names including Daniel Craig have been on the wish list.
