Vanessa Hudgens forced herself to feel insecure for Gimme Shelter

06 February 2012

She can currently be seen in the 3D sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about her upcoming role in Gimme Shelter.

The gorgeous Sucker Punch babe plays a self-loathing pregnant tomboy and tells You magazine "Apple is a really insecure character, so I was basically telling myself I was a piece of s**t for three months and it really affected me.

After filming was finished, it took me a long time to get out of that way of thinking. I completely lost myself for a while."

Hudgens underwent a dramatic transformation to play Apple Bailey in the film, hacking off her hair and sporting fake piercings. She also forced herself to feel "insecure" for three months during the shoot - but her intense preparations left her struggling to regain her confidence when the cameras stopped rolling.

There isn't a UK release date for the film yet, but it also features Rosario Dawson and Brendan Fraser. Hudgens also has The Frozen Ground ready for release and is gearing up to star with Selena Gomez and James Franco in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers.
