Wally Pfister on Batman 3

24 April 2010

With the release of Inception just around the corner, director Christopher Nolan would be forgiven for having other things on his mind like strange, dreamlike things with moving cityscapes and stuff, the rest of us wait for news on the third installment to the Batman franchise.

It is reported that Nolan isn't keen on 3D, and neither is his Cinematographer Wally Pfister he says "What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting, Brad Bird was [saying] 'you've got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!' I was like, yeah, I've talked to Chris about that." if that happens then we can expect the film to be epic in scope, he went on to say  the technology required to shoot Batman 3 in IMAX would likely be cumbersome, since he and Nolan used it for several sequences in The Dark Knight, but isn't sure that 3D photography will even be an issue by the time they start shooting. "I did it for one shot of The Dark Knight because he said, you have to say you did it, and literally I had this strapped to my shoulder and I was carrying it. But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around."

Nolan - Jonathan, that is - is hard at work writing a script that, if his brother's hints prove prophetic, will bring the Bat-saga to a fitting close. Christopher Nolan remains tight-lipped.
