Bisection – the new book from author, musician and filmmaker Kenton Hall – is a unique reflection on mental health, parenting, childhood trauma and life with twins.

It’s also a comedy.

“I have bipolar disorder, twin daughters and a long-term relationship with the arts that is borderline abusive on both sides,” it begins, before charting the biography of himself, his children and the unwelcome fourth party that has shared their lives.

Along the way, he writes about parenting, creativity, what bipolar disorder is, how it feels and how it affects those living with it – stories that are honest and tragic at times, but always maintain focus on the well-developed sense of the absurd that Hall maintains has been his saving grace.

“I tried to approach it as if Douglas Adams were writing a book about mental health,” says Hall, “With the added and extreme pressure that I am not Douglas Adams. But I do hope it will resonate with those who have experienced mental health issues, parenting or both, those who love those people and, for some reason, ex-railway workers.”
