Martin Freeman drops hints to his “Ambiguous” role in Captain America: Civil War

20 July 2015

Sought after British acting talent Martin Freeman has dropped some fresh hints about his “ambiguous” role in the eagerly awaited forthcoming Captain America: Civil War.

Speaking to BadTaste at Giffoni 2015, Freeman said "He works for the American government.

He works in conjunction with the superheroes and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes' power. You're not quite sure which side he's on. It looks a little bit like he's playing one game, when he's playing another.

It's the kind of character I like because he's ambiguous and because you don't know whether he's good or bad. And I like that area which isn't black or white.

I like the greys, because there's more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line."

Freeman’s accent will be "East Coast America”, and Captain America: Civil War will centre on the Marvel universe being divided when government agencies try to reign in the Avengers.

Featuring the stellar cast of Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, William Hurt, Daniel Brühl and Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas on April 29 next year.
