"a testament to Carthew for crafting a story that can be followed on the strength of the visuals"

KC Carthew returns with her Dystopian Thriller Polaris, set in 2144 in a frozen wasteland, the film centres on the exploits of a young girl, Sumi raised in the frozen wilderness by a Polar Bear.

The world feels lived in and is brought to life beautifully by Carthew and her creative team, you can feel the cold in this sprawling epic that follows the young girl as she tries to find her way back home using the Polaris star as a guide, after she has been taken captive by a brutal hunting party.

With little to no dialog, the story is told with grunts, growls, screams and harmonica music, and is a testament to Carthew for crafting a story that can be followed on the strength of the visuals.

With a relatable story of friendship and belonging, Polaris is beautifully acted by all performers, Vivi Lee, is the obvious standout, she plays Sumi and is in practically the whole film, she’s one to watch. She’s captivating, taking to the physicality that this role demands like a duck to water and I would certainly like to see more stories told in this world.

Clocking in at just over an hour and a half, Polaris is well worth your time, the soundtrack compliments the film giving it an eerie atmosphere.
