Luc Besson felt responsible for Oscar winner Natalie Portman

17 April 2011

Iconic filmmaker Luc Besson has revealed that he felt responsible for Natalie Portman's career and took a keen interest in the early years of her blossoming career and offered advice after he cast her for her role of Mathilda in Léon at the tender age of 11.

"From 11 to 16, I was following every film she said yes or no to because her parents were not in this business. I introduced her to her agent. You feel responsibly when you put a 12 year old in this business. She's clever though. At 16 she didn't need my help any more."

Portman who won the Best Actress Oscar for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan at this years awards can currently be seen in action comedy Your Highness and will next be seen in the eagerly anticipated Marvel Comics adaptation of Thor.

Her Thor co star Chris Hemsworth recently confirmed reports that she will reprise her role of Jane Foster is Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble The Avengers. With any luck, Kat Dennings will return as Darcy since Stellan Skarsgård's Professor Andrews is also set to return.
