Gnomeo and Juliet 3D kicked Grass at the UK Box Office

Entertainment One UK is proud to announce their 5th number one in just over two years of distribution with GNOMEO AND JULIET 3D.  Unravelling TANGLED from last weeks number one spot and conquering the BAFTA winning THE KING’S SPEECH by nearly a million pounds GNOMEO AND JULIET grossed £2.93 million on its opening weekend, which is gnome mean feat!

Set in the gardens of fair Verona Drive, we witness the blossoming romance of two young gnomes, Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt), amidst a turf war between the reds and the blues. Between the high-speed lawnmower chases and stealth missions, hearts (and hats) are broken, loyalties are tested and garden boundaries drawn, but can true gnomance conquer all? When your best friends are an over-excitable frog, a lovelorn flamingo, a loyal mushroom, a team of Bond-esque bunnies and a dopey fawn, there’s a shedload of fun and adventure around every plant pot!

The miniature monuments are voiced by massive household names including James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Matt Lucas, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Stephen Merchant, Ashley Jensen, Jason Statham and Ozzy Osbourne to gnome a few! Featuring classic and original songs by Elton John and directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2) GNOMEO AND JULIET is a great love story……with a very small difference.

In a very competitive market, with several of the new releases all entering the market place with over $100 million US box office under their belt – YOGI BEAR, TRUE GRIT and JUST GO WITH IT – the miniature monuments smashed all expectations to give Sir Elton John, who supplied classic and original songs for the movie, a Number One in a different billboard chart!

Entertainment One’s next releases include the Sean Penn and Naomi Watts political thriller FAIR GAME, Danny McBride’s hilarious medieval comedy YOUR HIGHNESS, Paul W.S. Anderson’s contemporary action adventure 3D take on the classic THE THREE MUSKETEERS and the next instalment of The Twight Saga titled THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN  PART ONE.
