Curated by Annabel Spinks-Jones, The Fan Carpet is proud to introduce our brand new area for creative writing: The Fan Carpet: Poetry Corner.

To launch the section, our co-founder Marc Jason Ali is revisiting one of his earliest creative projects. Produced as part of the Animation module on his Multimedia Design course over 20 years ago, this short collage animation adapts the classic nonsense poem One Fine Day.

Inspired by the stop-motion work of Ray Harryhausen, the two dead men are reimagined as skeletons. The animation has been preserved in its original format as an archive of that student project.

The Poem reads:

One fine day in the middle of the night,

Two dead men got up to fight.

Back to back they faced each other,

Drew their swords and shot each other.
