“an emotional, powerful and poignant exploration into mental health” |

Going into Little Piece Of You – An Atypical Musical, I didn’t know what to expect, it is an emotional, powerful and poignant exploration into mental health, with topical subjects peppered in. Essentially a two hander between Shannon and Britt, played beautifully by Mica Paris and Dujonna Gift respectively, Little Piece Of You – An Atypical Musical intertwines raw family drama with the dynamic pulse of modern rock and pop. As we follow Shannon and Britt, a courageous mother and daughter, as they confront their family’s hidden struggles and embark on a transformative journey, where they shatter the silence that has long held them back and step into a future of hope and resilience.
The aforementioned music is incredible, penned by the powerful ‘Rock Prodigy’ Kjersti Long, who at the young age of 17 has written and performed music well beyond her years in an amazing mash up of Alanis Morissette and Hayley Williams, with the clear stand outs being Bussing and her soon to be classic song Burn It Down. There is a clever use of time, showing a few flash back scenes as we are taken on the journey of this family through the years. Beautifully choreographed, with the addition of background players and dancers that enhance the proceedings making sure everyone is on their mark, Little Piece Of You – An Atypical Musical is vibrant and thought provoking leaving a lasting impression so much so that I hope it receives a longer run before too long.
