SYNOPSIS
We Have a Pope. When the pope dies, the assembled cardinals gather to elect a new one, each one of them hoping its not them knowing the impact on their lives. The successor elected is Cardinal Melville (Michel Piccoli) and its at this moment that his self-doubt surges out of control.
Refusing to step out onto the balcony, the services of a psychoanalyst (played by Moretti) are called in to bring the new pope round. Setting the scene for a broad comedy, we follow Melville as he wrestles with his doubts against the backdrop of normal life in Rome.
Nanni Moretti is an award winning Italian director known for his astute observations of the Italian establishment and a winner of the Palme D’or for The Son’s Room.
