"the movie successfully achieved its goal, bringing to the screen an entertaining and hilarious movie for both children and adults"

Four years after the successful third instalment of this franchise, Alvin and the Chipmunks are back with a fourth movie. With the same framework as the other three films, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip's plot once again uses the power of family and love as a base for the plot while still entertaining both adults and children.

This time, the three famous chipmunks have to deal with the scary idea of having to add two new members to their family, Dave's girlfriend Samantha and her son Miles. Afraid that Dave will replace them with this new “normal” family, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, with Miles' help, try to stop Dave from proposing to Samantha during their work vacation in Miami.

During their long trip-adventure from LA to Florida, the three chipmunks cause their usual brand of troubles, while getting to know Miles a little bit better and starting to really bond with him.

With multiple film sequels there is always the high risk of becoming repetitive and use the same dynamics in each movie, making it easy to bore the audience and create something that is not entertaining anymore. With that being said, even though Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip follows the same pattern with the three brothers getting into trouble and trying to make Dave forgive them, every time the scenarios change making the film always slightly different from the previous ones, making the audience laugh all over again.

As it is pretty clear the plot is simple and based on small misunderstandings that in the end are all solved for the better. However, what makes Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip entertaining is the fact that between adorable and hilarious moments, the movie is also made up of scenes with an important message hidden behind: Family is all you need and no matter if you make mistakes or if you are a chipmunk and your father is human, family will always have your back and love you.

Another aspect that helps Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip in its quest to delight the audience is the soundtrack. Obviously everyone knows that Alvin, Simon and Theodore are a “boy band” and for this reason, in all the movies the music accompanying the story have always been remakes of the most famous and catchy song of the moment. The music, along with the cameos of some pop artist, helps create a nice atmosphere made up of silly jokes and funny sketches.

The only small thing that was a little bit off in the movie was Bella Thorne's character. Her performance was a little bit too fake and it felt like she was there just for show, which could be the case.

All in all, if the only purpose of Alvin and the Chipmunk: The Road Chip was to give to the audience an hour and a half to relax and have fun, the movie successfully achieved its goal, bringing to the screen an entertaining and hilarious movie for both children and adults.
