"The groundbreaking visual effects and vamparic creatures complete the story, it's strong and entertaining throughout"

Imagine a world controlled by vampires with only a handful of humans. The Spierig brothers bring us Daybreakers and they do it tremendously well, from daylight driving to alarm systems that tell when the sun is rising. The world they have created is as dark as it is beautiful and as stylish as it is gritty.

At the heart of the film is Edward played by Ethan Hawke, a vampire scientist who does his utmost to steer clear of human blood. Edward is trying to solve the problem of a dwindling blood supply with trials that leads to unexpected and explosive results.

The principle cast is rounded out with the ever brilliant Willem Dafoe, who plays Elvis, the pivotal to the plot. Newcomer Claudia Karvan plays Audrey, a delight to watch and definitely one to look out for. Lastly we mustn't forget the ledgendary Sam Neill as Charles Bromley. Sadly Isabel Lucas (Alison Bromley) doesn't have as much screen time as I had hoped, for me she was one of the most interesting characters and I would have liked to have seen her developed.

The groundbreaking visual effects and vamparic creatures complete the story, it's strong and entertaining throughout despite its obvious ending and reconciliation. Daybreakers is not your typical vampire film, it goes beyond the usual gore and scares to deliver a captivating story. It's a smart futuristic sci-fi thriller with a witty twist on a familiar theme and perfect for fans that are tired of romantic vampires.
