Principal photography has commenced on ELECTRICITY, the powerful and uplifting story of Lily, a brash young woman who leaves her remote seaside town to go in search of her long lost brother.
AGYNESS DEYN (Pusher) is Lily. LENORA CRICHLOW (Fast Girls, ‘Being Human’), CHRISTIAN COOKE (Cemetery Junction, Magic City), PAUL ANDERSON (The Sweeney, Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows), TOM GEORGESON (Notes on a Scandal) and ALICE LOWE (Sightseers) also star.
Based on the award-winning novel by Ray Robinson, ELECTRICITY has been adapted for the screen by BAFTA-winner JOE FISHER (Soundproof) and will be directed by BAFTA-nominee BRYN HIGGINS (The King of Chaos). Their last feature UNCONDITIONAL was an international festival hit.
The film is produced by CLARE DUGGAN (Unconditional) from Stone City Films and executive produced by ALISON MORGAN. ELECTRICTY was developed with the support of the BFI FILM FUND. BFI is also backing the film’s production alongside WELLCOME TRUST. SODA PICTURES will release in the UK. ELECTRICITY will shoot on location for six weeks in the Northeast and London.
ELECTRICITY is the story of Lily O’Connor – brash, sexy, wittily defiant – who lives on the remote Northeast coast cut off from the world and her past. But when Lily’s long-absent mother dies, the past draws her back in. Her old brother Barry, pro poker player ‘Slick’, reveals that her younger brother Mikey ran off to London years ago and got in to trouble. As children, Mikey was the only one who loved and cared for Lily. Now she must find and help him. It’s a search that could kill her. Lily’s epilepsy brings on vivid hallucinations which we experience through her eyes on her extraordinary and deeply moving journey.
AGYNESS DEYN’s film roles include Aphrodite in Clash of the Titans and the role of Flo in Pusher starring opposite Richard Coyle. In 2012 Agyness received rave reviews for her appearance on the West End stage as Paula in Francois Archambault’s comedy ‘The Leisure Society’. ELECTRICITY marks Agyness’ first major film role, and will be followed by her playing the female lead in Terence Davies’ film adaptation of the novel ‘Sunset Song’.
Speaking from the set of ELECTRICITY, Agyness says on playing the role of Lily: “I love Lily's journey, she is a survivor. Her strength and her ability to live in the present really drew me to her. She is a delight to discover and she's teaching me a lot.”
CHRISTIAN COOKE played the lead role of Freddie in Cemetery Junction and starred in the critically acclaimed C4 drama ‘The Promise’ directed by Peter Kosminsky. His upcoming roles include the romantic comedy Destination Wedding and Julian Fellowes’ screen adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Christian is currently appearing in the Golden-Globe nominated 1950s Miami-set drama series ‘Magic City’. His previous TV roles include the character of Luke Kirkwall in the ITV drama ‘Where the Heart Is’.
PAUL ANDERSON is known for playing the lead role of Bex in the 2009 film The Firm, as well as roles in The Sweeney and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He will play the lead character in the upcoming British gangster saga ‘Peaky Blinders’ also starring Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory, and has roles in upcoming films including Brain De Palma’s Passion and Uberto Pasolini’s Still Life.
