Irish actress noted in part for the age at which she began her screen acting career. Her first screen performance was at the age of 78, in a 2000 episode of the BBC soap opera Doctors. Her first major role in a feature film was the 2003 film Duplex as the “little old lady” who poses an obstacle to the happiness of a young couple played by Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore. She played small roles as a sweet elderly fan of J. M. Barrie in the 2004 film Finding Neverland, and one of Charlie Bucket’s grandmothers in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005 version). She had a supporting role in The Producers (2005 film version), and has appeared in several other films and TV programs including the BBC sci-fi series Torchwood and the ITV fantasy drama Demons.
