"Gerard Butler turns avenging angel in this cat and mouse thriller"

What would you do if the man that raped your wife, and then murdered her and your child in front of you, only got 3 years in jail because he made a deal with the criminal justice system.  I imagine you’d be rather upset.  Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) was, and Law Abiding Citizen follows his rather violent quest to make the justice system realise its failings.

Normally in a review, I’ll talk about what I thought about the film, what the good points and bad points were, but I’m in a bit of a pickle here.  What makes this film so intriguing is, any this is a very rare feat, I had absolutely no idea how what I was seeing was happening.  Think of it like this – when you watch Derren Brown on TV, you know what’s going to happen, but you have no idea how he does it.  Law Abiding Citizen does just that – cars are blowing up, mobile phones are being turned into guns (not as cheesy as it sounds), and yet no one, including the audience, has any idea about how it’s happening.

What we have then is a cat and mouse thriller – and I’ll be honest it’s pretty good.  Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) is the culprit supreme in the eyes of Clyde, and as such is very much the mouse to Clyde’s tiger.  The level of violence is simply phenomenal, but very cleverly done so as not to seem over the top.

That’s pretty much all I can say.  It’s a good film – not going to challenge for an Oscar or anyone’s all time list, but certainly the thought provoking nature of the film makes it an intriguing prospect for the audience, and it’s certainly well worth a watch.
