SYNOPSIS

Originally conceived as half of a feature devoted to Maupassant stories, Renoir’s idyllic portrait of a fleeting moment of love during a day’s picnic by the river is one of his richest and most moving films. Yet the actual shoot was dogged by bad weather, the director abandoned the material, and it was only put together ten years later.
