"a solid movie, the visual props looked great"

The Conjuring: Last Rites starts off with a flash back of the Warren’s going to conduct an exorcism in a house, while Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren is heavy pregnant, the exorcism goes very wrong, and she finds herself out of her depth. She touches a creepy antique mirror, and it cracks as she she is about to give birth. So, they leave the house and go to the hospital, the baby is still born and Lorraine prays to God for the baby to come back to life, which it does.

Then it zooms to flash backs of Judy Warren (Mia Tomlinson) growing up under the watchful gaze of Ed Warren, played once again by Patrick Wilson, he is older and grumpier during the events of the movie, more protective of his child who has now grown up and has a boyfriend, that he dislikes. At his birthday party you find out he has a bad heart which is why they no longer help people getting rid of evil spirits.

Judy can also see ghosts, but she tries to block them out with a nursery rhyme made up by Lorraine.

The Warren’s are pulled back into the world of the supernatural when the Smurl family end up having the creepy antique mirror and as always, as is the case in The Conjuring franchise, the unsuspecting family get tormented daily.

When the Warren’s, accompanied by Father Gordon (Steve Coulter), go to the Smurl family house, he splashes holy water all over the house and it starts smoking like it’s acid, which I found to be the best bit in the whole movie. When he panics and leaves saying that he will speak to the church about the events here. He goes to a church building but the evil spirits follow and end up tormenting him.

The Warren’s end up going to the Smurl family after Judy runs off after Father Gordon is found dead and when the Warren’s return to the Smurl house Lorraine realises it’s the same Demonic spirit the night her baby was born and that the spirits have come for little Judy.

The creepy mirror starts to levitate and spins around, with another Scary Movie on the way, this will definitely be used as it was terrible a spinning scary mirror. Once it is all said and done, with some lovely easter eggs in Ed’s artefacts room; with notable inclusions being the painting of the Nun and Annabel, tying to the wider franchise.

Overall, this was a solid movie, the visual props looked great, but the ending was very poor, the pace felt a bit all over the place, as though they were trying to re-introduce the characters all over again, I wonder if this will be the end of the franchise.

Not very scary but based on a true story.
