"Packed full of heart, humour and cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine is a triumph from start to finish"

Bringing the iconic characters of Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU for the very first time was no easy feat, but Shawn Levy and the Creative team have done just that, keeping the core of what made Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool work on his own for his first two outings into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe playground.

Along for the ride is Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, a role he has made iconic for a quarter of a century, but make no mistake, this isn’t the Wolverine we saw in Logan, this is a variant, and there is a wonderful montage of Jackman as different versions of Wolverine, which includes some deepcuts from comic book lore.

Without giving anything away, we meet Deadpool aka Wade Wilson after he has hung up the costume and is living a quiet life as a car salesman with Leslie Uggams' Blind Owl and his close friends including Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) until he is brought into the TVA (Time Variants Authority), where he is given the devastating news by Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) that his universe is about to cease to exist, what follows is a mission to save the lives of the ones he loves.

Seeing Jackman suited up in the blue and yellow is a high point, it took twenty-four years but we have a comic accurate take on the costume, and Reynolds is phenomenal in the role of Deadpool. Jackman is too, providing much of the emotional core of the film, including coming face to face with a notable character.

Deadpool idolises Wolverine, whilst Wolverine tolerates Deadpool and the two, being functionally immortal due to their incredible healing abilities come to blows often throughout the film, with neither pulling their punches and attacks during the brilliantly choreographed sequences, the action is on point.

Incredibly entertaining and infinitely rewatchable, packed full of action, heart, humour and cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine is a triumph from start to finish, it keeps the core of Deadpool without watering him down for the Disney owned MCU, he’s as foul mouthed and R-rated as he ever was and he is joined (finally) by Wolverine. As mentioned before, this is a variant, so the events that culminated with Logan; arguably one of the best superhero films in Cinema history isn’t negated, it is hilariously touched on but this film doesn’t act to erase it.

Some of the cameos are full on roles in the film, but the majority of them are surprises and whilst some have leaked, some have not and I would urge you not to go looking for them on the internet or accidently stumble upon them on social media, however, there is a lot of misinformation out there too, so don't be fooled.

There is one cameo that was shown in the marketing and I’m not sure why they used it, she is great in the film and it was wonderful to see her back. I’ll keep it vague incase you don’t know going in, and I think it is best to watch it as fresh as possible.

As good as the heroes are in this film, they need an antagonist and this time the villain of the story is Xavier’s sibling Cassandra Nova, played brilliantly by Emma Corrin, she is menacing and is a real threat, she has her own band of mutants and villains on the Void, some of these are recasts for the film, while others are returning cast from the previous entries in the Fox Marvel Universe as well as other studio productions and she is also in control of Alioth and the supporting cast lead by the excellent Macfadyen hold nothing back.

The music in the film wonderfully compliments proceedings, and makes brilliant use of iconic songs like Madonna’s Like A Prayer and a brilliant use of N*SYNC's Bye Bye Bye which is accompanied by a fantastic dance routine, Deadpool & Wolverine is the only film that can make me voluntarily listen to the famous boyband!

Whatever the future holds for Deadpool, the future is bright and if Wolverine is along for the ride then it's all the better since off screen Jackman and Reynolds are great friends and it certainly shows on screen in a film that is as much about friendship as it is about spectacle. I can't wait to watch it again and if the rumours are true that Deadpool and Wolverine are in Secret Wars then bring it on!
